Flannery Animal Hospital - Dental Prevention and At-home Care

Good dental health begins at the first examination of a new puppy or kitten and should continue with prevention and at-home care. Below are just a few ways you can protect your pet’s teeth and gums:

  • Brush your pet’s teeth at least two to three times per week (daily is best). Your veterinarian can show you different techniques to use at home.

  • Feeding hard food may reduce plaque accumulation on the teeth. Your veterinarian can recommend an appropriate food for your pet.

  • Schedule routine oral examinations and regular scaling/polishing to aid in the prevention of periodontal disease. This should be done every six to twelve months, depending upon the findings during your pet’s first dental exam.

  • Healthy dogs may benefit from a dental vaccination series designed to further safeguard them against periodontal disease. Ask your veterinarian about the benefits of preventative vaccines.

Our mission

“We brought our dog, Rookie, in for a routine dental procedure, which turned out to be a much bigger deal than expected. Thankfully, your new digital dental X-ray equipment enabled the dental team to gain a clear picture of what was going on in his little mouth.

Your technician showed us the X-ray and explained every part of the procedure that Rookie was going to need. He took the time to put our minds at ease, and we felt confident in his expertise. With this experience— and others we have had over the last decade—our family is grateful the Flannery staff is part of our community and we look forward to their continued care of our pets.” – The Velsor Family (plus Maggie, Rookie and Emma)
