Vetsulin Manufacturer Update

The manufacturer of Vetsulin has recently been ordered by the Food and Drug Administration to discontinue production of Vetsulin because of concerns regarding the long term stability of one of the components. It is important to note that the product is not being recalled, and it is still considered safe for your pet, but is expected to be in short supply for an undetermined length of time while this issue is addressed. Therefore the company has released a statement emphasizing the need to transition dogs and cats from Vetsulin to other insulin products as soon as possible.

At Flannery Animal Hospital, we are in the process of switching all of our diabetic patients to different insulin products. We will be using human insulin that we have experience with from the past. One of the most important thing to remember during this switch is that the syringes from your Vetsulin are not compatible with the new insulin. If the u40 syringes from Vetsulin are used with the new u100 insulin they will overdose your pet!
Our goal is to make this treatment change as smooth as possible for our clients and their pets.
Please call our office at (845) 565-PETS/7387 to discuss with your pets veterinarian the best way to carry out this transition.
